Our Purpose
The Henry Vilas Zoo Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to securing philanthropic support that advances the Zoo's mission. Through donor support, the Foundation helps fund transformational projects that benefit animals, guests, and the broader community.
Henry Vilas Zoo has been a beloved, free community resource for over a century. The Foundation exists to help ensure it stays that way for generations to come and to grow into something even more remarkable.
Edge of Africa: Giraffe
The Foundation's primary funding initiative centers on what has been one of the most beloved animals at Henry Vilas Zoo, the giraffe. This transformational project will reimagine the Zoo's giraffe habitat, tripling the amount of indoor space and doubling the outdoor space, making room for an entire herd of giraffes.
This world-class experience aims to deepen the connection between visitors and these remarkable animals, while advancing the Zoo's conservation mission.
Your donation will help build:
- A purpose-built habitat designed around the physical and behavioral needs of the giraffes.
- Elevated viewing and feeding areas, alongside educational programming that will enhance the visitor experience.
- A landmark addition that will serve the Dane County community for generations.
